I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

My name is Dr. Grant and I would be happy to help you master tough educational problems. I grew up with dyslexia and attention deficit disorder and was raised by a single mother in a wheelchair. Still, learning how to learn, I overcame my shortcomings graduating in the top 3% of my class and went through 14 years of high quality university. In the process I earned four degrees and two state teaching certificates. Even so, Ivory Tower professors have always bugged me and I strive to be student oriented and practical. I farm, raise cattle and chickens, and flip houses in Texas and Medellin, Colombia where I went to teach English many years ago.

For 35 years I've taught university, high school, college, and adult learners on four continents. I've been a bilingual school teacher 8 for years, a college professor for 7 years and an ESL instructor for 2 years. I even spent 9 years in the working as a Kellogg fellow in the Texas A&M University System Head Office, teaching professors and graduate students how to teach in addition to conducting research. Did I mention that my masters and doctoral degrees are in Education?

Students say that I explain things really well. Maybe they are just being kind. They may not realize that I'm like a medical doctor diagnosing and fixing educational needs. Because I'm really fun (or crazy) and care about people, students from kindergarten to adults, generally want to be in my courses and classes. Driving Uber and Lyft for Texas A&M University Students I spend much of my time giving awesome career and major advice helping students to better understand how test developers, teachers, professors, and employers think.

Don't be afraid because I'm older and I've retired from teaching. You might just be surprised to find that I GET IT having young people around all the time and college age children of my own.

I will leave you with my philosophy of education which I just made up right now.

"Those who teach, often teach well. and there is nothing so beautiful to a true teacher as a promising student ignited with self-direction and a thirst for knowledge. Experts in the real world are often make poor educators because they can have no clue how to understand diverse learners or even understand how to efficiently transmit what they know through experience.
Few non educators realize that teaching is both a science in search of important answers and an art, choreographing a dance of ideas. Teachers are like stand-up comedians who can kill a set, or lacking wit, can really bomb!"
