I fell in love with one-on-one tutoring during the time I worked in New York City. I worked for a company who provided on-set tutoring for students who were working on Broadway, in film, etc. I discovered that it was exciting to work with students individually and experience the success with them in real time. I also found that I really enjoyed working with students on a wide variety of subject.
In addition, I look forward to being challenged by the students I tutor. Over the years, I have found that I am most rewarded when I tutor a student in a subject such as Algebra and that student has a "lightbulb" moment. It reminds me that we all continue to learn and grow. I feel as if I grow with every student I tutor.
With that in mind, I do have a special place in my heart for literature and writing. I have found through my years of teaching and tutoring, that students often fear writing. I want to help students overcome this, as our written word is still one of the most powerful tools that we have. Through writing, we can make a bold statement about who we are, we can educate and inform and, in fact, we can change the world. I look forward to helping students learn to understand and use their words.
