Certified Tutor
I do not believe that my grades make me a great tutor. I do not believe that my test scores make me a great tutor. Frankly, I do not believe that any of my academic achievements qualify me as being a great tutor. When I think of the qualities that a great tutor possesses, I think of; an easygoing and encouraging attitude, a strong desire for both teaching and learning, and the ability to identify and work with the student's needs.
I put my students first, always, and I am ready and willing to put all of my experience towards helping you succeed.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I guide my students as they carve their own paths.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Introduce myself and focus on getting to know my student and his or her learning habits.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will help my student maximize the potential of the resources available to them.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I want my students to know that mistakes and failure are natural parts of the learning process. My comedic side will also work to keep his or her spirits high.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would try explaining the concept in a different way or use an analogy to make the concept more relatable to the student.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Slow down the pace and carefully explain as we read through together.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Conveying information in a way that is both entertaining and relatable to the student
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Explain the subject in a different manner that the student can be more excited about. If the student loves football, turn the math question into a football-themed math question.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would analyze the student's performance and problem-solving methods to determine if he or she has a satisfactory understanding of the material.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Provide the student with encouragement if he or she isn't quite getting it, and praise the student once they get on a roll.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I can typically determine on my own what specific areas a student needs help with, but I will also ask the student directly what they need help with.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I tailor my teaching style to best aid the student in his or her areas of weakness.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Relevant workbooks or textbooks that I may have myself, online resources, and most importantly, the brain.
