What is your teaching philosophy?

Learn while having fun; engage in a creative way.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Introduce myself and ask what the student hopes to gain. Also, ask what they are currently studying and how far they've come.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Engaging them in the curriculum or subject by trying to find something they enjoy about the subject, and then letting them run with it.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Through innovative and fun ways such as art, music, theatre, games and films.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Breaking down the material and going through it section by section.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Crafting the session to their needs and also using alternative methods of learning.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Tie it to an interest that they have, such as art, sports, music, film or food.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Seeing if the student can teach me the material and if they can engage. Or sample tests.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Having them engage in the subject and also having them learn through visual aids, interaction, etc.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Based on either notes, such as school notes, or asking the student directly what they are struggling with.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I adapt by crafting the lessons to each student. If a student is more of a visual learner, it is using alternative methods such as music, film, and games; or if a student likes reading more, it is leaning more towards that. I like to adapt my tutoring based on the interests of the students.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Pen and paper, online resources, books, worksheets, YouTube videos, games, songs, art, music, theatre, etc.
