Certified Tutor
I'm currently a second grade teacher. I have experience in both urban and suburban areas and feel that my skills in the classroom will benefit each student I teach. I taught first grade for two years at Delphi Academy of Boston and have been teaching second grade for 4 years in Public Schools. I have been the sped/EL inclusion teacher in second grade over the past couple years. Using backwards design, I have designed and planned lessons that accommodate for students diverse learning styles, IEP's, 504's, cultural and social emotional needs. I have offered my students a variety of assessments to provide them with opportunities to showcase their skills and knowledge. I consistently hold students accountable for their learning and hold high expectations within all lessons. I have allowed families and students to bring their culture into our classroom which has allowed me to build a sense of community as well as a responsive environment where students feel safe. Students collaborated with peers in authentic roles to become problem solvers. I have also demonstrated excellent behavior management that led to students success and growth within my classroom.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Education is the collection of knowledge brought among the students in a classroom that remains with the learner after the concept has been taught and that can be applied to their everyday lives. In order for a student to obtain a wholesome education, they must have a strong support system at home and at school. Children need a safe and loving home life where they are encouraged to do well at school, a strong sense of collaboration between their teacher/school and parents/guardians, a safe community surrounding their school as well as home, and a dedicated and determined teacher who is willing to go above and beyond what is needed in the classroom to meet each student's needs. An effective teacher is passionate about their profession, has knowledge about the content they are teaching, and an awareness and ability to differentiate among the students to ensure each child receives a well-deserved education.
The purpose of education is to gain skills, preparation for community participation, future roles, and promote a child's growth and development. It is the way to expand minds and learn something in a way you would never think before. Educational experiences support the healthy growth and development of children; concepts that they can look back on that helped them figure out their way of learning can stick with them throughout their lifetime. If a child can apply a concept to everyday life and not only use these skills while taking an exam or in the classroom, they will grow to be successful adults. Students build schemas and make connections to everyday learning in school that will help them succeed in their future educational paths.
Children need a great support system from friends, family, and teachers. They need role models - someone who can listen to them or they can talk to, a person they can trust and who is honest, and somebody willing to step out of their way to help the child. Teachers who make personal connections to their students gain a sense of community within the classroom that helps the student grow and feel comfortable. Students spend a majority of their time in a classroom with the same group of students and teachers. In order to gain the best possible education, they must feel comfortable with the students and adults around them. They need a healthy classroom environment where they know harm will not come among them and they won't feel excluded. Education prospers from an inclusive and warming environment.
Teachers are the people who have a desire to teach children and love to engage children in learning. They have a passion for teaching. They don't mind the long hours they will need to put in to continue their own education to benefit their students. Effective teachers have high professional standards, and are role models, problem solvers, relative thinkers, communicators, have self-knowledge, knowledge of subjects and students, and knowledge of technology. They connect with each student and meet their individual needs academically. Effective teachers have knowledge and training to meet the needs of students with disabilities. They are willing to go above and beyond what is needed in order to ensure that student's success. Teachers are expected to reach out to each student's family and ensure they are a part of that child's school life. Effective teachers should have knowledge about each family's background, heritage, and traditions and use this to mold lessons within the classroom.
