Certified Tutor
I earned a Bachelor’s of Science from Dominican College in Blauvelt, NY. I currently hold a Pennsylvania Elementary Education Teaching License. I have 7 years of teaching experience, and 10+ years of experience working with children of all ages. For the past 6 years I have been a Pre-Kindergarten teacher in Pittsburgh. My vast experience of working with children has provided me with the needed skills to help students grow academically. I have worked with students of many ability levels, including those with specific learning needs. As a teacher and tutor it is important for me to understand how the student learns and to introduce them to a variety of ways of learning so they are able to reach their full academic potential. My patient personality has proved beneficial while working with young students. All students learn at their own pace and I believe it is important for any teacher to respect that pace.
My favorite elementary subjects to tutor are phonics, reading, and writing. Since I was little I have loved reading and I encourage my students to allow themselves to time to read every chance they get.
My philosophy on education is student-centered with a focus on the teacher and student forming a cooperative relationship in order to find the best learning method for the student. Each student learns differently and it is important to me as an educator to find the best method of learning for every student I encounter.
While not teaching or tutoring, I love spending time with my 10 month old son and husband! Exploring new things in Pittsburgh is always something I enjoy doing. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies, along with DIY projects for our new house we bought in June!

What is your teaching philosophy?
My philosophy on education is student-centered, with a focus on the teacher and student forming a cooperative relationship in order to find the best learning method for the student. Each student learns differently, and it is important to me as an educator to find the best method of learning for every student I encounter.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
During a first session, I feel it is important for the student to feel comfortable right from the start. Before jumping into the academics, I like to ask the student a little bit about themselves, things they like to do, etc. I also think it is important for them to know about me so I always ask if they have any questions they would like to ask me! For younger tutoring students, ice-breaker games always help to get the ball rolling with the comfort level. When it is time to move onto the academic portion of a first session, I like to find out what it is the student feels they would like to gain or get out of our learning time together.
