I am a former professor of History and Literature at Earlham College, a small liberal arts school in the Midwest. I earned a dual PhD in Comparative Literature and Germanic Studies from IU Bloomington and a BA (summa cum laude) in English from NYU. Over the past twelve years I have lived, studied, and taught all over the world, including a year as an English instructor at the University of Paris Nanterre and a year as a postdoc research fellow at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. I consider teaching to be one of the great passions in my life and I have had the privilege to work with students from almost every conceivable background. Although I have taught large seminars and presented lectures to audiences in the US and abroad, I find that the most rewarding and enjoyable teaching experiences are those that are one-on-one. My expertise is in Philosophy, Literature, and European History, but my interests extend to languages (French, German, Hebrew, and Latin) and to the study of religion. Since I first caught what a former professor of mine called the "reading bug" back in college, I have come to discover a simple truth: literature can reinvent the world. So when I am not reading, or hiking with my dog, or helping my wife out at the barn, I spend my time writing, trying to create a book of my own.
