I am a PhD candidate in mathematics at the University of California, San Diego. I have over six years of teaching experience, both in the classroom setting and with personal tutoring.
Dissertation work has opened my eyes to a wide range of mathematics, much of which I would be pleased to tutor. High schools and universities have a wealth of resources for students, but they tend to lack a setting that gives a student the freedom to reveal weaknesses in a subject or to question that subject at will. Not only do I enjoy conveying mathematics to students, but I am also interested in how mathematics is interpreted. Since tutoring frees students from concerns about how they are perceived by their peers, it can provide a clearer understanding of how they interpret the mathematics that is presented to them. This creates the opportunity for more effective instruction.
When I'm not in the world of mathematics, I'm hiking in the wilderness, or concentrating on a chess problem, or cheering for my beloved New York Mets. I also love reading history and literature. I'm slowly learning art history, but that's going to take some time!
