My assessment of the student's second ACT writing practice prompt resulted in a score of 5, and the practice reading passages he completed only had 2 incorrect answers out of 20. We continued discussing strategies to help his reference skills after that.

Today we heavily focused on the ACT Reading section. We spent time using ACT notes online to learn about more test-taking strategies and practice with the specific types of questions like details, character inferences, plot inferences, vocabulary, main idea, and comparisons. We found that the student has trouble with inferences and main ideas because those questions require him to go back and reread the passage. We also went through the four different types of stories on the test and found which ones were the easiest and most challenging. As of now, he seems to be doing the best on Natural Science passages and Social Sciences. We went over his new ACT score from a test he took a few weeks ago and he has shown improvement. We will focus primarily on Reading and Science for the next couple of sessions.

The student and I discussed strategies for the reading section and worked through a full reading section passage by passage, identifying common errors. She often doesn't read a question carefully enough and had several wrong answers because an answer was *mostly* right but hinged on one wrong word. We focused on those and on how to avoid that pitfall. We also spent a little bit of time on English just identifying the most commonly identified grammar errors in that section. We will be working on the SAT tomorrow.

I assigned the student half of a practice test, the reading and science sections. We went through the reading section together, and we worked on the proper type of focus one must have when doing this section. She is showing improvement on the science section and also on math.

The student and I worked on three entry exam sections yesterday- Reading, English, and Math. This was the first time we had looked at the Reading section and it appears that it may be the most challenging for him. The main challenge in this section will be time management. We will have to focus on learning how to read quickly and efficiently. By retaining the crucial parts of a passage the first time it is read, he will be able to answer a lot more questions without losing time by going back and rereading. I assigned a few passages for him to try with a time limit. I also assigned more Math and English section problems, also timed as well.
