AMBITION by Zaine - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

My name is Zaine, I am an individual enrolled in a local college of forestry with a focus in human affects on the ecosystem. Aside from school I have cooked in many professional venues, with nearly six years experience. I am a skateboarder, keeping to ditches and sidewalks I have to maintain myself and am an avid bicyclist. Physical activity is what keeps my mind rolling and what people refer to as my "outlet". Between my board, bike, and bowls of food; I encounter many days where I sacrifice physical comfort, sleep, and time spent as a typical early twenty years kid should.
I spent my first year of college as many do, wrought with parties, substances, and making memories with friends. It did not turn for the best, and I took time off to find a more meaningful direction. This was for the best, as I would not have fared well taking school online. I am now sober, living in my own paid for apartment, and starting school in the fall of twenty-two.
Studying forestry is my means to work against agencies tearing apart natural resources, and to nurture future generations through education and practical, hands-on knowledge. My goal, and already the race I am running is to have the same dedication for school as I do my other passions. There is no limit to the hours I will spend reading and putting growth into my education. I am applying to research positions, starting community groups, and learning about clubs on campus. This is an exciting journey, there is so much beauty in completing something beyond satisfaction to the point I have to look away from it for a moment. I cannot know the full extent of my capabilities until I push myself there, it is a daily experience.
