Nocturnal by Yasmin - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
Describing me as a morning person is an equivalent as complementing a sloth for its vibrant, liveliness. I am a night owl because it is when all your thoughts come rushing to you about your day and sometimes you just gotta digress them, even if it means falling asleep until 2 AM.
You can spot me doing the most outrageous things at midnight just because it popped in my head. I get this feeling of there is so much to do in so little time because once you close your eyes for bed, who guarantees you are going to wake up? Sometimes you just have to colorize your entire closet at dusk to really appreciate the time you got left in this world.
I am most productive during this time because I retain more of what's happening around me better than in the morning when melatonin levels are high and I can barely even get out of bed. At night, I feel like I get to process and absorb every action I make or any thought that encounters my brain. I come up with the best ideas or solutions at night when I recap on my day. Doing things at night just makes you go to sleep more relaxed because you know you got stuff done. Finishing that task you've been putting off lets you sleep with a peace of mind in my opinion.
