Presenting with the WOW FACTOR by William - December 2017 Scholarship Essay

A successful school project depends on two words: WOW FACTOR. It is easy to complete a project and give your fellow classmates, and your teacher the basic information about a topic. However, if you want to achieve the ultimate success you have to include something that will create an aw-inspiring reaction from those whom you are presenting to.

In a presentation I could easily drag on and on about the process the delegates at the Constitutional Convention utilized to draft the Constitution of the United States, but would it not be more exciting if I set the stage of the Convention with an aw-inspiring attention grabber like the following:

1787 Philadelphia, a blistering heat wave sweeps across the city. The heat is well known to the residents of the city, but known only to a select few is the fact that 55 men from throughout the United States are gathering inside Independence Hall. They want to create a new government – one that will last the test of time, but they act in secret because what they are really doing is committing high treason. Despite the heat outside, they sit in the sealed Independence Hall to draft the Constitution of the United States.

Once you gain the attention of your audience, you can move on to the details that make your presentation what you need it to be, an educational experience. However, I believe if you do not get the attention of your audience in the opening lines, you will have lost them for the entire presentation and all of the research and preparation you did to prepare for the presentation will have been a complete waste of time.
