A Dinner for the Ages by Victoria - February 2016 Scholarship Essay
The opportunity to have dinner with someone of historical significance is giving someone the opportunity to learn a lifetime of experiences and knowledge from a great mind. If I was given this chance I would jump at the thought of having dinner with John F. Kennedy. Kennedy, being the 35th President of the United States, has made numerous strides and accomplishments in this country's history. The fact that he was so young and the fact that he was one of the only Presidents that actually took responsibility for his actions and decisions, really appeals to me.
Being able to have dinner with him could open my mind to numerous events retold by the one person who was at the center of it all. I would love to be able to hear first hand, President Kennedy's initial reactions to learning about the missiles in Cuba. I would also relish in being able to hear what it was like talking to Soviet leader Nikita Krushchev, as well as the thoughts, fears, hopes, and doubts that were running through his head during this whole ordeal. Being able to talk with the late President would provide me with so much knowledge and insight into what it is like being president during such a critical and stressful time in American history.
Without a doubt in my mind, if I was given the extraordinary opportunity to have dinner with a historical figure, I would choose John F. Kennedy, for his amazing insight and look into the workings of a great president.
