The struggles of what's to come tomorrow by Victor - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

A new year's resolution that has been helping me so far this school week is stopping my procrastination. I had a tendency to procrastinate a lot in 2015 with homework assignments. I don't do my homework at the last minute right before class but I did on multiple occasions work on my homework the night before the assignment was due. I would never do this to projects as they really do have a higher weight in score. However, the annoyance of remembering my homework right before I go to sleep at night has finally pushed me to the edge to do something about it. That was my motivation for researching a way to prioritize my assignments. However I had progressively gotten tired of this lifestyle since my junior year, so I decided to try to motivate myself over the summer at the commencement of my senior year. However, it still happened on occasion for homework I tended to forget. This kept occurring but less frequently than previous years. I still felt there was always room to find improvement to break my bad habit.

I made this new year's resolution as a sort of motivation to help me manage my time more efficiently. I searched for an application that will add homework assignments to my online schedule and will also be able to set reminders in the afternoon once I return from school. The app had done wonders in allowing me to remember assignments that I needed to finish. Usually my everyday(weekday) routine would consist of going to school, practicing for track conditioning, returning home, eating, and then browsing on my phone or doing any homework that I can recall. Now I can remember to go straight into my assignments and have free time later in the day to go on my phone or to sleep in earlier than before. Could I have done this before? Yes, but I felt that I was doing everything right if the end result was turning in my assignment. I then realized it wasn't just the "destination", but that the "travel" matters just as much. Now I feel more relaxed and I am glad that my new year's resolution has assisted me to progress as a better student in 2016.
