2021: My Educational Future by Tyler - December 2020 Scholarship Essay

The year of 2020 has been a very rough year for everyone in the United States. It is tradition to come up with New Year's resolutions to help us improve our lives in some way when compared to the prior year. Since I am preparing myself for college, it would be appropriate to make a New Year's resolution in education. My educational resolution for 2021 is to successfully make it into college with little to no debt. College is much more than just a degree, it is knowledge that I will remember forever. One of the biggest reasons that I want to go to college is because my parents did not go and I know that they had a ton of struggles through life. I want to be the first in my family to get a degree and make a good living for myself. I have worked so hard throughout middle school and high school to get myself to this point and I want to take advantage of the college opportunity. College is a great way to gain knowledge, but also comes with a high cost.

Although college has a high cost, many people take out student loans. Of course, loans have to be paid back over time and that is why I am searching for scholarships and grants to aid my funding. To me, college is worth it. Putting myself in immediate debt would create a burden for the rest of my adult life. I want to get an excellent education, but at an affordable price.

College is an amazing opportunity that not everyone gets. I am grateful to have been accepted by my top 5 colleges and I am trying my best to reduce the cost. I hope that 2021 is a better year than 2020 and I hope that I achieve my goal of making it into college with little debt. I hope to get a bachelor's degree and find a career that will provide for myself and my future family.
