Leadership skills are very necessary for college success. When someone mentions leadership skills their first inclination is to think leadership skills over other people. The only problem with that is that you can have leadership skills over other people, but how you conduct yourself and your time is what you have to be worried about. This is another form of leadership skills that are equally important and not many people understand that. The skills that would be most important when starting college would be time management, initiative, and motivation.

Time management is highly important when doing anything especially when it comes to school work. Without time management skills nothing would ever get done. You have to be able to balance the assignments that you get with work, if you have a job, your social life and study time, which is different from school work. Without time management skills you could either fail your classes, lose your job or have too much or too little social interaction.

Another important leadership skill would be initiative. As a college student you have to have initiative to go to your professor and ask questions or seek help on assignments that you do not understand. It is also important to have initiative to start your work early giving you enough time to get the assignment done without the worry that you will be missing something, or you do not understand something.

Highly important when discussing leadership skills is motivation, which is closely related to initiative. You need a high motivation level to get your work done on time and done correctly. When you have the motivation to do the work you will get it done, the only problem is without this level of motivation you will not be able to succeed when it comes to the quality of work you are turning in.

The type of leadership skill that is most important is when you have a sense of leadership over yourself. You need to be able to balance all the activities in your life and still make the grade, and one of the biggest ways to accomplish this goal is through leadership skills.
