Mother Nature by Thomas - March 2023 Scholarship Essay
The person who has had a positive impact on my education would have to be my mother. I have been homeschooled most of my life so you would think that I would naturally say my mother. That is not the reason. My mother has impacted my education the most because she has been in my corner my whole life, she has spent endless hours helping me with my education and she has always believed in me when I have not always believed in myself.
At the end of my sophomore year, I decided to join the middle college program at my local community college. This is a program that has allowed me to earn my associated degree while still in college. I was excited to earn credits that would allow me to achieve my life goals faster. I had no idea what obstacles I would have to overcome to achieve this goal.
I have had academic setbacks one after the other. From not being able to receive the ACT scores I have hoped for to failing a class. Through all these trials my mother has been there for me encouraging me to continue, to try harder and do better, to never give up. Believe me, there were many times I wanted to throw in the towel.
When others would tell me I was not good enough to take the classes I was taking my mother would tell me lets prove them wrong. She has helped me learn that it takes hard work to be successful. I have gone from spending very few hours studying for a test to starting my studies days in advance so I can put in the time to get the job done.
I dream of being a computer engineer, my mother has a degree in math so that has helped. She has also spent hours on end teaching herself physics and chemistry so that when I need help, she is there able to help me be successful in my studies.
I know she cannot go to college with me next year but I will always carry the lessons she has taught me in these last few years. I know that I can achieve anything if I put the work in. Even if I have set backs I know that I have the strength to get back up and keep trying. I owe everything in my education to my mother.
