English is not my cup of tea. by Teck - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

English is not my first language, and by no means am I good at it. In fact, I'm terrible at English. I choose this subject to teach because throughout my education; none of my English teachers really sat down with me to make sure that I had the basics locked in. If the roles were reversed, I will be a teacher that teach others because I want to make their future lives easier by taking the time and making sure that they know all the basics grammar rules, reading skills and etc. This can only be accomplished by spending one on one time with the students and make learning fun. What pays me will not be the monthly paycheck I get; it will be the reward that my students leaves my classroom confident in what they know. Another reason to teach this subject is the fact that I get to learn alongside with my students. I believe that everyday we should be better then who we were yesterday and strive to learn more and grow more. Not that I want the students to fail because I may not be the best English teacher in the world, but I want to sit down with them and walk them through a process that will benefit them in the long run. By no means am I great at English but if the roles are reversed. An English is what I want to teach.
