Don't Just Live: Thrive. by Tayla - November 2016 Scholarship Essay
Usually everyone says the people they’ll meet, the house they’ll join, or the places they got to see, but what about the in-class experiences, and being able to thrive in everything? There are so many experiences I could be thankful for in the future, but the one I really look forward to is the hands-on experience.
Having a passion for science like I do, you start to realize what gives you that rush of pure enjoyment. The experiments, dissections, readings, writings, projects; all the hands-on things that’ll bring you closer to your passion. That’s what I thrive for in the college experience. I want to get all the hands-on experience, and learn the material, because in the future I don’t want just a job, I want a career; something I can look forward to doing, not something I feel like I have to do. I want to thrive, not just be another student.
You have to love your job to excel in it, so if you don’t love your job, then what are you actually putting into it? A career where you love what you do, the people around you, and the atmosphere; that’s what you really want. You don’t want to have to go somewhere every day just to have a bit of money to get by. You want to have a career you love, and want to have enough money left over, so you can treat yourself; not worry about bills.
College is not just about the people, the house, or the places; it should be about the classes, and that’s what I look forward to the most. The classes that will teach me what I need to learn, so that I can have a career, and everything I need to love that career. To be able to go to class, get the hands-on experience, and thrive. That's the experience I look forward to the most in college.
