Why I Would Write a Cookbook by Stephanie - June 2014 Scholarship Essay
If I were to write a book, it would be a cookbook. I have always had a passion for food and have been collecting recipes since I was in middle school. As a twenty-four year old, I have collected hundreds of recipes over the years. I have recipes from family members and friends; I am also always browsing on Pinterest and the Food Network websites. I am constantly trying new recipes while adding my own personal touches to the food.
Cooking to me is more of an art and a labor of love than it is work. If I were to write a cookbook it would represent that creativity and love. I would use pictures of the food and ingredients to get people excited about what they are going to be making. I believe that cooking, especially baking, should be fun and I will make that happen for the person using my cookbook. I would not just write down the procedure to make the item, I would explain why we do every step of the procedure so the person cooking can understand what they are doing and why they are doing it. As I expressed earlier, cooking is an art form not a strict step-by-step procedure. By getting someone to understand why they are doing what they are doing, he or she will be able to apply those techniques when he or she tries creating his or her own recipes.
In culinary school I was taught to try something cooked three different ways before saying you do not like something. By following that philosophy I have been able to put together recipes that I really enjoy. I would love to one day compile all the knowledge and recipes I have accumulated over the years to create a cookbook that others could use to learn and create their own culinary style.
