Engineering Advancement by Shedon - June 2020 Scholarship Essay

After graduation, I will use my degree to further advance the world of automation. I see robot's being shown as the next step in automating the world and I want to be apart of that. I will combine the mechanical engineering knowledge I got from my Mechanical Engineering bachelor's with this Computer Science Masters of Engineering to assist in constructing robots and writing the programs for these robots. I understand this will not be a quick and easy thing to do but I want to enter a company after graduation that focuses on robotics and their development - whether that be a start-up company or an established company. Though, my goal is to join a start-up company after graduation as I'll be able to work more with new technology, than say corporate jobs/companies, and therefore continuously develop my skills and knowledge of what might and might not work in the world of robotics research and development.

I know robotics can be a broad term/career area but my overall goal is to be able to combine my hardware and software experience into a machine that will help everyone around the world. That could manifest itself in the self-driving car industry, robotic automation industry, or maybe even in the self-defense industry but my goal is to create ideas and products that will assist people that need help.

I have always wondered: what’s the point of advancing technology if we’re comfortable now? And I believe it’s to increase the amount of comfort for humans. Being able to constantly innovate and create solutions FOR people is something that excites me. That is why I am entering a field of constant advancement and no ceiling to what can be done. Everything, including humans, is evolving and I want to not only be a part of this evolution, but to be one of the people on the forefront of this development.
