My Study Habits by Sarah - May 2016 Scholarship Essay
My study habits move and flow with each different quarter and depend on what classes I have to study for, and in which order the final exams are.I generally try to keep it the same as much as possible; I know the time of my exam and how much time until I need to take it. Last quarter I had a math and a philosophy class that I needed to study extensively for. I devised a schedule to help me be organized and not overwhelmed with my studies; I make a list of the times of each exam and calculated how much time outside of each class I could afford to use to the best of my abilities and study.
I found that with the one hour break in between the classes I could alternate my days of one hour of studying on subject and the next day study the other subject, I of course had approximately five hours of study time that did not cut into my homework time but those went much the same way: alternating each subject each day. I quickly realized that I needed a better method because I would study math on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and philosophy Tuesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays (leaving Sundays to absorb the information). This hectic schedule constantly left my head aching wondering which day it was or what subject I had to review, so I decided to research my math on Monday and Tuesday take a break on Wednesday to let my brain absorb the information and leave plenty of space to study philosophy on Thursdays and Fridays.
For the weekends, since it was only two weeks until my exams, I took a break on Saturday and used Sunday to study extensively on math the first week and then philosophy the second Sunday. With this less intensive schedule I did positively great on my exams and I did not feel overwhelmed and out of control, which I believe, led to me being calm and prepared for these exams. I also believe that that was the reason that allowed me to pass my finals.(355)
