My Journey Through Alpha Omicron Pi by Samantha - December 2019 Scholarship Essay
When I first started college I was so eager to start getting involved on campus. In high school I had been involved with band, drama, chorus, art, and a few other groups. I wanted to find something like that in college, but where I found it completely caught me off guard. I was approached by one of my former RA's about coming to an event some of her girl friends were hosting (i.e. sorority informal recruitment). I debated heavily whether I should actually go or not because I wasn't the type who felt drawn towards greek life. Being the open-minded person I am, I decided to give it a shot.
That is one the best decisions I have ever made. Since joining this sorority not only have I gained life-long friends, but I have also joined a sisterhood full of like-minded individuals who are academically driven and always push me to do my best. I was worried I would face party dilemma when I joined, thankfully as a whole our sisters recognize there are much more important and valuable things in life than to waste your youth drinking and partying. We like to focus our efforts more on the benefit of helping others. This has given me the wonderful opportunity to indulge in my love for community service and philanthropy work. In the year that I have been a member I feel as if I have grown significantly, as a student, a leader, and as a woman. It has given me more responsibility and constantly challenges me to put my best foot forward. It has truly benefit me in all areas of my life and I am so thankful to have the opportunity to be part of such a wonderful organization full of genuine and smart women.
