Learning From Failing by Samantha - August 2014 Scholarship Essay
In my junior year in high school, I was constantly failing my essays. No matter what I did my essay was not good. Failing these essays made me realize that I have to do something about it or I would fail the entire class. I was always looking for ways to write my papers better. In my high school essays, I was always missing something or not answering the right question. When I realized this, I sat down and meticulously organized my paper. I spent hours trying to write one specific thing after the next and putting it in a specific place. When I got my grade back I finally passed. This made me stronger because I improved my writing and my grades. I passed the AP class with an 83 instead of failing with a 60.
I enrolled in an English class at college over the summer and it has helped me tremendously. Now, in my dual credit English class, I am making A's on my essays. I can now transfer these credits when I am admitted to the college I want to go to. Failing those essays made me understand that I need to constantly work to get better.
