Crayons of Education by Samantha - March 2018 Scholarship Essay
I would explain the importance of continued learning to a second grader with crayons as my metaphor. Second graders, while very cute, still need very broad adult ideas simplified. What seems as the obvious next choice to a senior, like me, might be completely unthought of by a second grader. It's also easier to explain complicated things to kids in ways that they can connect to. The next few paragraphs are how I would explain why I think it's important to continue my education to a second grader.
Imagine that I gave you a very complicated picture I wanted you to color in. This picture can be of anything you want but needs to use more than one color. Now because you are in Elementary school you get a red crayon. While this will let you color the picture if you wanted to it wouldn't be nearly as cool then if it had more colors. Middle school gets you the yellow crayon, and high school will get you a blue crayon. Athis point you have all the necessary primary colors to help you color this picture, but it could be cooler if you had more colors, like ones that sparkle, or even just brown and black crayons.
College is an important next step and when you choose the path you want to go on and graduate you can get any other colors you want, you'll have many more possibilities. At this point you can color your picture anyway you want to and it will be the picture you always dreamed it will be even though it required a lot of work.
Overall college is also something you have to work hard and dream for but it will open many doors.
