Senior Quote by Sabrina - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

There are many things that my senior quote could be, it’s hard to choose one thing. But, I think my senior quote would be, “We made it”. In my family has always been about giving up or having to dropout of high school because they’re having a baby. Almost everyone I know that is an adult dropped out of school.
My mom dropped out of school and I think that is why she is really determined to have me finish it. My mom got pregnant with me at 17 but she had gotten out of school earlier in order to work since she didn’t want to go to school anymore, plus her family needed the money.
I don’t know about my biological dad, but ever since I met him he was working or with his family, after that, we moved to the United States and don’t know what he does or his childhood. BUt my stepfather, my dad, he dropped out of school really young, he started having babies at like 12. But that’s how they are in Mexico I guess, everyone has kids young.
I think all of my mom’s family got out of school early, they never finished. I have cousins who have kids right now at 17 and other people that got pregnant at 14. I had wanted to get out too, many, many times, but I didn’t and I think that’s all my mom’s fault which I know I will really be thankful in the future, I am somewhat thankful now but once I get out, I know I’ll owe it all to her and my dad.
Everyone I know wanted to get out of school at one point, but we are still here and we’ll make it and once we do, there’s going to be more school but at least we are one step closer to finishing and getting to the success that’s supposed to come after all that work. It’ll pay off, I hope.
