In the novel titled The Color of Water, the character Ruth is described as a woman who is loving, determined, and always thinks positive regardless of negative surroundings. For instance, even though the majority of people dislike her, she stays a loving person and forgives them. Also, Ruth is very determined, she wants a better life for her children, so she goes out of her way to do everything possible to meet their needs and want; which makes her a very dedicated person. Not only is Ruth loving and determined, but she is also very encouraging and is always positive. To illustrate, no matter what she went through she stayed positive and encouraged everyone around her and herself despite of any negative effects. These qualities that Ruth possesses is how she influenced me.
Ruth has influenced me majorly to become a positive person. I am mostly a negative person, and I don't always have positive feedback for many things. By reading the book, and learning about how Ruth handled so much at one time makes me realize that there are many people that go through tragedies, but are still so positive. I decided to try and be more of a positive person, so that I can handle many things as well. Moreover Ruth also influenced me by showing her determination. I am more dedicated to my studies and I want to achieve my goals to go to college. I will reach this goal with determination, which is what Ruth influenced me to do. Therefore, the character Ruth in the novel The Color of Water, influenced me to become more determined and a more positive individual.
