The World View by Ronelle - March 2016 Scholarship Essay
Studying abroad can open infinite doors of opportunity and should be a requirement for all college students. In our modern age of technology where global communication is the driving force of the world, I think it's important for students of all fields to learn how their field works within different parts of the world and how it influences the culture and daily lives of a community.
It is important to think about things from different perspectives. Placing yourself in a new setting of another country gives you the ability to sort out the similarities and differences between different parts of the world. These comparisons are what help create innovative ideas and critical thinking.
Growing up as a military brat I have attended schools in both the United States as well as Europe. While a college education is different from a primary and a secondary (within the culture of the United States), I have already found that my experience abroad has given me a different mindset when compared to the majority of my peers. My mentality has matured from the experience of living in different communities and cultures and is exhibited through my ability to think of how my ideas and actions can have an impact on a larger scale.
Studying abroad allows a person to focus on what is the best that can be done rather than what is the best they can do. From the larger scale thinking I have already had the opportunity to develop through experience, I am aware that there is an infinite number of ways to approach things. Thinking in a broader way enables a person to also have a broader view of what is available to them.Whether you are working within the structure of business or fluidity of fine art, doors open for those who know where to look and studying abroad helps light the way.
