My Joy in My Future Field by Rejoice - December 2021 Scholarship Essay

At exactly 2.52pm on November 1st 2021, my life took a major turning point because that was the moment I received an email of an acceptance offer from UTHealth. That day was one of the best days of my life because that brought so much joy into my life given that the past few days of that week, which was the week of October 31st was very rough for me. As child, I have always dreamt of helping and giving back to the community as much I could and one of the ways I believed I could do that was to become a nurse and UTHealth has provided that opportunity for me.
As much I want to become a nurse to help people, one thing I have always being passionate about is making sure that patients feel comfortable speaking to medical personnel. Due to a miscommunication between a patient and a nurse back in the hospital I went to when I was in grade 6, the patient was misdiagnosed, and his condition became worse. As a result of this experience at the time, I decided that I do not want to be like that nurse who made it difficult for her patient to have a conversation with her about what his condition was. I do not take this opportunity to pursue my goals lightly because this is all I have dreamt about since that experience at the hospital. Due to some financial challenges with my father, I have had to take up the responsibility of paying my tuition. Paying my high school tuition was not easy because I had to combine 2 jobs and school at the same time, which took a toll on me at some point. Therefore, applying for this scholarship is really a golden opportunity for me because that would lessen my burden and worry , which would then give me the chance to focus more on school and make sure that I get the best grades that I know I could get and above else, be certified to practice nursing, which would then allow me bring my aspirations to fruition one step at a time.
