Perseverance by Randy - January 2018 Scholarship Essay

During my freshman year, my parents were going to leave their comfortable surroundings of the small, overpopulated city of Hialeah to move to Frankfurt, Kentucky in search of better job opportunities that would benefit our entire family. While this situation transpired, I was staying in my grandmas’ house. Every day I would contemplate over how this decision my parents made would flip my current life upside down. As a result, I grew as an individual and learned that facing adversity doesn’t have to be negative because adversity can create self-development like it did in me.
From the time I began kindergarten, my parents have always instilled in me qualities that have made me successful and will continue in aiding me in my growth as an undergraduate student and later on, a successful marketing manager. Traits such as self-improvement, hard work, appreciation, and perseverance. These qualities are reflected through my work and my relationships with teachers and friends.
Now, as a high school senior, the diligent hard work in all my courses is going to pay off as I come closer to earning an admission spot in one of the post-secondary institutions that I have longed for my entire life.
My parents didn’t settle for average when they decided to risk everything while coming to this country, so why should I? The hunger that motivates me to be the best version of myself will not be replenished until I know that my parent’s life is set without them having to worry about money ever again. When I reach this objective of mine, I will only thank them, today and every day of my life, for sacrificing their lives for the benefit of mine.
