How Student Council Inspired Me by raegan - November 2022 Scholarship Essay

Being a leader of the student council is something that I consider very important. My job is to lead and create a better experience for all the students here. Taking on a huge role like this has impacted me in a positive way and made me into the person I am today. During my four years at Purcell Marian High School, being a leader of the student council not only had an effect during school but I made sure it showed in my community as well. The reason I wanted to join the student council was because I knew I could set an example for others by showing them the different aspects of teamwork, leadership, and responsibility. I also have the ability to work well with others and have fun while getting the job done.

As a leader of the student council, I not only had to lead our members but I also learned how to take on larger responsibilities than any of the other members would have taken on. For example, taking care of any decorations placed up around the school, sports and spirit week activities, morning announcements, fundraisers, etc. In addition to leadership skills, I’ve gotten the chance to learn and work with my other team members. I was able to listen to them contribute their own unique ideas, interests, and concerns on how to make our school better. Our student council not only focuses on our school but we make sure to focus on the community surrounding us as well. We make sure to clean up by picking trash up in an effort to make around us a better place and to show our appreciation to others.

Student council has impacted me in a variety of ways and has taught me several things about myself . Over time, student council has helped develop my leadership skills. Being on the student council provided me with many resources, tools, and learning skills that I needed and helped me realize what a leader actually was. I learned that giving back and offering my service was a part of who I am. I felt like it was my responsibility to help those around me who were in need, sharing my blessings with others to put a smile on their face made me the happiest. Student council has made me realize that even though I enjoy working alone, having a team backing me up is so much more meaningful and motivating.

Student council has been the best experience for me overall, it helped me build skills that I’ll need entering college or any jobs that I may take place at. It has given me the opportunity to grow in my communication, leadership, responsibility, public speaking, and even organization skills. Not only have these experiences strengthened my leadership skills, but also inspired my interest in nursing. These experiences inspired me to pursue a career dedicated to blessing others and giving back my service to helping others.
