2016 New Year's Resolution by Rachel - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

I have many New Year’s resolutions in order to better myself as a person for this brilliant upcoming year of 2016. The most important aspect of my life right now is my education and I want to improve myself as a student more than anything else. Therefore, one of my New Year’s resolutions is to become a better student by going to the library for two hours, three times a week. This will definitely help me become a better student in 2016, because it will force me to focus on school work, allow specific time for me to do it, and allow me the time to do quality work for all of my classes.
Going to the library for two hours, three times a week will force me to focus on school work during that time which I need. In college there is a lot going on in the dorms, my roommate is there, my friends are on my floor, and a ton other distractions that lead to procrastination of homework. Going to the library I am forced to be quiet and not talk to my friends, I am limited from TV and other electronic distractions, and it is a quiet atmosphere where I can concentrate. With my own space, little distractions, and no comfy seats is a great place for me to focus completely on my school work for two hours. It also helps me to allow time for completion of my work as well.
Setting these specific time slots each week for time in the library helps to ensure that I allow enough time during the week for the work that needs to get done. It can be easily over looked in college on how much time you really need to get all of the readings, homework, and notetaking done on time. Last year there has been many times I did not leave myself enough time to get my work down at a reasonable time without pulling an “all-nighter” or not finishing work on time. This will help me schedule time to do my homework and allow myself to get everything I need to get done on time.
Lastly, going to the library for two hours, three times a week will allow me to do quality work. Getting homework and readings done on time is important, but the quality of it is equally important. Doing homework in a focused and quiet environment will get me in the mind set to do quality work for my assignments which can eventually lead to higher grade point average. A high grade point average is a great aspect of an outstanding student which I am looking to become in the year of 2016.
The mindset that being in the library gives me is that I am forced to do work, focused, and wanting to complete my work with quality. I want to take my time on it and do a good job. This is why my New Year’s resolution of going to the library for two hours, three times a week is the perfect resolution to better myself as a student. I am excited to start 2016, with this resolution and reach my goal of becoming a better student which will also help me in my future as well.
