In my opinion, the purpose of education has changed over the years and will continue to change. Currently, education is a necessity to survive in society now. Those who have an education have an advantage over others, for they have a better understanding of the world around them and how it works. In this day and age, having a higher education can and does determine your success in the future; for example employers are more likely to hire applicants who have a college degree as opposed to those who don't. More opportunities are available to those who have sought higher education, and those who have done so were exposed to fields of work pertaining to the career they wish to pursue.

An education helps us realize what we want to do with our lives, what we are good at and how we can contribute to society. It presents us with the necessary tools to pursue our desired career. It provides a sense of stability and independence in one's life, the knowledge that we have earned our living and can continue to do so is a comfort. It can also help to ensure a future where others are dependent on us: children, spouses, relatives in need.

Education is monumentally crucial to our continued existence; it separates us from animals and allows us to learn and grow as a people. It is not always easy and some choose to abandon such a decision, but those who trek on, take the harder route, are ultimately rewarded in the end.
