The decision to pursue a college education is a personal one, driven by a mix of aspirations, values, and experiences. In my case, it's a choice that reflects my desire for personal growth and community impact.
Growing up in a family with a strong military background, the traditional path of military service held a significant presence. However, as I examined my own interests and strengths, I realized that my true passion lay in academics. I had consistently achieved near straight-A grades throughout my school years, emphasizing my enthusiasm for learning and intellectual pursuits.

My educational journey is anchored in the pursuit of a degree in Sociology, which I view as a stepping stone to my ultimate goal of attending law school. My choice of Sociology might appear unconventional, but I firmly believe that this discipline provides a unique and valuable lens through which to view and address societal issues. It equips me with the tools to analyze and understand the dynamics that shape our communities and, ultimately, to foster positive change.

The heart of my academic and career aspirations lies in making a tangible impact within my community. A pivotal moment that reinforced this commitment came through the story shared by one of my teachers. This story revolved around a student who struggled for a decade to gain custody of her child due to a lack of proper legal representation. Her predicament was further exacerbated by the complexity of her situation – she was Zuni, the man involved was Navajo, and they resided between New Mexico and Arizona. The absence of legal support that could navigate the nuances of their situation highlighted the significant gap in the legal system for Indigenous individuals.

This story ignited my determination to be part of the solution, to ensure that individuals like her are not left without proper legal representation. I aim to become a tribal lawyer, dedicated to filling this legal void, thereby ensuring that the rights and needs of Indigenous individuals are effectively and justly represented in the legal sphere. I believe that my pursuit of a Sociology degree and subsequent law school attendance will empower me to achieve this goal.

Furthermore, college is a space where I have discovered my true self and futher developed a passion for teaching and mentorship. My experiences here have not only shaped my personal and academic growth but have also illuminated my strong desire to guide and support others. It's a realization that aligns with my experiences as a counselor at New Mexico Boys State, where I have the opportunity to mentor and support young men.

In essence, my journey through college is a multifaceted endeavor that intertwines my love for learning, my commitment to making a difference within my community, and my passion for teaching and mentorship. It's a path that I believe not only fulfills my personal ambitions but also offers a platform to contribute positively to the lives of others.

I am excited to continue this journey and look forward to the opportunity to share my experiences, inspire others, and help students find their own unique paths to success.
