Prince's Gap Year by Prince - August 2019 Scholarship Essay

Going to into the field of medicine or global public health, I have a lot of school in my near future. And to maximize all the opportunities I can, I need funding and experience. During a gap year, I would not only obtain a job to lower to cost of college but I would build my interview skills and apply for internships. Internships are the best way to test out a field to see if its the right fit. Being stuck between medicine and international policy isn't the best case scenario, but through research and hands-on work I would be able to figure out exactly what I want in a more effective and beneficial fashion.

Straying from academics, this would also be the time I would find unknown interests and adopt hobbies. This would present an opportunity to learn who I am outside of school and plan the rest of my schooling and subsequent life accordingly.

Even though I am not taking a gap year going into undergraduate school, I am considering it before medical/graduate school. A gap year could presents unique opportunities in academia and my personal life that you can't get in school. This is an avenue I will be considering.
