A Turn Of Events by Payton - December 2016 Scholarship Essay
Having attention deficit disorder (ADD) has kept me from making good grades all throughout life, and made school in general feel impossible. I tried so hard, I constantly studied, I pull all of my energy and thought into my school work just so I could get B’s. I never did no matter how hard I tried. My parents for awhile thought I did not care. I thought I was just plain stupid. I would make a few low B’s and a high C or two. This killed my confidence my whole life, and my GPA freshman year.
The summer after my freshman year of highschool I was diagnosed with ADD. Once I found a medicine that worked for me, it was clear that I could actually get good grades. My grades started to look up, making more high B’s and maybe one C the entire year. I still never thought I would be able to get one B and all A’s. Until now my senior year.
Having these good of grades is major for me. Having these grades is an amazing accomplishment that I never thought I could accomplish. This year, for the first time in my entire life, I have made one high B, and the rest A’s. After being diagnosed it took some time to find study skills that worked for me and certain routines. This year I have hit the jackpot. School is still a lot harder for me than others, and I have to put more time into it, but I’m not constantly worried about failing.
I never thought the letter “A” would give me so much joy. I’m incredibly proud of myself. I have beaten myself up for years thinking I was just stupid or was not putting in enough time, and all these years later I am doing it. I have so much confidence in myself that I did not have before. My junior I was making all B’s so that gave me the courage to take an AP class. I have achieved a goal that I never in my wildest dreams thought I could accomplish.
Knowing I am smart enough to make these amazing grades gives me courage going into college. I know that if I try my best, stay on top of my work, and ask for help when needed, I can do amazing things.
