A college degree brings a lot of benefits that go beyond just what you learn in class. One of the most obvious advantages is how it opens up more career options. Many jobs today require a degree just to get your foot in the door, and having one can really expand the opportunities available to you. Whether you’re interested in specialized fields like healthcare or engineering, or more general areas like business (my major) or education, a degree gives you access to roles that you wouldn’t be able to pursue otherwise.

Another important benefit is the potential for higher earnings. Research shows that people with a college degree tend to earn more throughout their careers compared to those without one. This not only starts you off in better-paying jobs, but also helps you move up faster in your career. The financial stability that comes with a degree is one of the biggest reasons why many students see college as such a valuable investment.

But beyond the financial and career benefits, college is also a time for personal growth. It’s a place where you can meet people from different backgrounds, explore new ideas, and challenge the way you think about things. For me, college has been an opportunity to build confidence, learn to express myself more, and step out of my comfort zone, especially since I’ve always been on the quieter side compared to my sibling. I learned all of these things when I had to be roommates with people I didn't know, take classes I wasn't initially interested in, and experience social situations that I had to learn to navigate on my own.

College also helps you build connections that can be important for your future. The people you meet—whether they’re professors, classmates, or colleagues from internships—become part of your professional network, which can help you find jobs, get advice, or find mentors down the road. These relationships can be just as valuable as the degree itself. This summer I was an intern with Tesla. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Tesla but I'm also aware that the fellow interns and employees I met were just as valuable as the job.

Finally, earning a degree is a huge personal achievement for many, and it can motivate you to do even more once you get it. I'm almost finished with my college education and all I can think about is where I'll head to graduate school for my MBA. A degree represents all the hard work, dedication, and persistence you put into your education. For someone like me, who’s overcome challenges like ADHD and dysgraphia, it’s a big milestone and a huge confidence boost.
