Mastering The Art Of Learning by Nikyna - September 2018 Scholarship Essay

John Dewey once said, "Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself." In 25 years, I will be 42 years old, and I will continue to live and learn by this statement. By then, I would have a better insight of the world and the people around me, but I would also know that there is so much more to learn throughout life. I will continue my learning by first mastering the art of learning how to learn, then knowing how to retain and apply my knowledge in life, and lastly never forgetting to learn something from every single one of life's experiences.

The skill of learning is a hard one to grasp. Nowadays classrooms are full of teachers that show you how to think instead of helping to lead one to their own conclusion. In 25 years, I will know how to analyze things and create my own way of thinking. Not only will this help me to become a great learner, it will also help me to become a humble learner. Everyone has their own aspects on certain things, but by knowing how to learn I will know that I can take good things from these diverse opinions that I might not have know in the past and apply it elsewhere.

Learning is not anything if the information is not retained. To know that I am truly learning, I will be able to apply the things I've learned from my own research and even from other people. Valuable lessons are learned in life everyday and I will do my very best to use them in my everyday life.

Continuing to learn is something that is basically instinct to me. I yearn for a better understanding of myself and others. To get this better understanding I will have to understand that everything in life is a lesson, whether it be a good or bad experience. It seems as though it is easy for a person to go through an experience have a bad outcome and still do the same exact things as before, but not I!

In conclusion, in 25 years I will continue my learning. Even after those 25 years my knowledge will continue to prosper, because I will understand the art of learning, how to apply my learning, and to never stop learning.
