Ticking Clock by Nicole - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
One vice almost every student is guilt of is procrastination. Waiting until the last minute on assignments, rushing that research paper, and cramming the day before a test is far too common. It can lower the quality of work, and the subsequent score. I too procrastinate. In 2016, however, I want to change that.
366 days. 8784 hours. 527040 minutes. That is the time I have in 2016. It is time I want to spend well. Prominent events in that time will be a high school graduation and the beginning of college. A new phase in my life will begin, and I am extremely excited. However, I plan on majoring in Biomedical Science. It is a Chemistry, Physics, and Biology intensive program. I will be challenged. Starting now, the beginning of 2016, I will prepare myself for this challenge.
In this New Year I will use my time wisely. I will no longer procrastinate. If I put entertainment distractions before schoolwork, I will undoubtedly fall behind in college. By doing my assignments as soon as I can, I will assure that everything will be done on time. The quality of my work will not suffer because I will not be rushing at the last minute. By starting this practice now I will have a solid habit formed by the time college comes in August. I need to excel in school, and ending procrastination will allow me to do that.
2016 is a ticking clock. The time I have is slowly being chipped away at. Using that time firstly for my duties and responsibilities will help make me a better student. The best part, though, may be later relaxing and not having school hanging over my head.
