Benefits of a College Degree by Nicholas - October 2024 Scholarship Essay
I think the true benefits of a college degree lay in the doors opened, connections made, and the dedication demonstrated.
So what do I exactly even mean by ‘doors opened’? I am really talking about the countless options opened by just having a college degree. One example is that it gives access to higher paying jobs. A quick Google search told me, “Bachelor's degree holders earn 86% more than those with a high school diploma, with a median income of $40,500 compared to $36,000 for high school graduates.” While it is still possible to have access to some of those jobs without a degree, having a degree really takes your resume to the next level especially in the eyes of employers.
This brings me to my next point: the connections made. Yes, college can be overwhelming to many, but the bonds and connections you make through this whole process last forever. Not only will you make friends, but you will interact with some of the brightest people in each field. These people and friends are not only sources of knowledge and comfort, but they may also help you land your dream job.
The final benefit to getting a college degree is the dedication demonstrated. A college degree is a tangible achievement which can be written in your resume and can be seen by employers. It is something that represents the knowledge you know and excel at. In addition to this, it shows your dedication to a field of study and ability to finish what you commit to doing.
Overall, I truly believe the benefits of a college degree outweigh the costs associated. It opens doors, helps make connections, and demonstrates dedication.
