How to Use a Gap Year Well by Nhi - August 2019 Scholarship Essay

It is expected that students will go to college or university right after they graduated high school. Many students will go to college or a university since they have been accepted by the school. Other students will do a gap year: which is when a student decides to not go to college immediately and takes a year off to have "a break" from schooling. Those who do that are the ones who don't have the money and go to work, being nervous about doing higher education or just don't want to go and do fun things without school work in the way. Many of these reasons sound quite true but taking a gap year could be either a good or a bad choice.
For the students who take a gap year, it is a good idea to use it as a year to earn money by working without having a huge pile of school work to worry about. Being able to work would mean being able to earn the money for most of going to college. It is important to have some breaks while working since there could be times where there could be no breaks to have fun like going out with friends in both working and sometimes in college.
Another reason is that students could be very nervous about going to college since they are going to become an adult during the time and finding who they are and what they want to be when they graduate from college. Those students who take a gap year because of that reason should also find a job that has a bit of a career influence like working at a pharmacy as a cashier to get a small experience on what it is like to be a pharmacist. That wasn't the best example but there jobs like that. It is also another time to find scholarships that could also help to pay for college. Although there is stress at work, those who take a gap year would rather have fun than doing what they should do like working at a job.
As those who would rather have fun than finding a job, that isn't a smart way to use a gap year. First, it could be wasting money by staying at home or going out to have fun like going on an overseas trip. There won't get as much experience as having a job when you graduate from college. Second, there could be potential for forgetting how to study and have a hard time when you go back to studying. Finally, it could be hard to go to college because the student could have so much fun that they don't want to become overwhelmed with stress from schoolwork. Sometimes a gap year is helpful and sometimes it's not but it depends on how the student uses the year.
In conclusion, there are many ways of using a gap year well to help to get into college. Mainly it's a year to find the money to help pay for college or just have a break from learning. It's best to find a job to get the money to pay for college and getting experience from the job. A gap year is either good or bad depending on how it is used throughout that year. How would you use a gap year to help you?
