I believe that attending college is important, but not a necessity. College provides many advantages that can lead to a better life in the future: it paves way to many unique opportunities and those with college degrees earn more on average. Achieving success is very important to many people, and going to college is a good way to achieve one’s desired success.
Attending college can open doors to new opportunities, such as broader career options and personal growth. With the great breadth of majors and programs offered by colleges, the career options are never ending and it is much easier for one to discover the career that they are passionate about. Potential job options also increase with a college degree, as many employers are looking to hire a college graduate. In addition, the traditional college experience will greatly impact one’s life by teaching them independence and shaping their identity. As a college student, one will get to experience numerous areas of interest, develop new friendships and networking connections, and establish and accomplish difficult goals. The college experience is very important, as it allows one to grow socially and culturally, as well as intellectually.
Money is also a big reason why I consider college to be important. College graduates typically earn up to almost 65% more per year than those with just a high school diploma. A higher salary means more money, more money means a higher quality of living, and a higher quality of living often means happiness. Attending college and earning a hefty salary will lead to a happy, stable life and also secure a sense of success in one’s life.
However, college is not a necessity. Ingrained in our societal beliefs is that a college education is the only route to success. In reality, there is no such thing as a perfect path to success in life. People carve their own unique path, and it may or may not include college.
