Balancing What Matters with What's Good by Morgan - August 2019 Scholarship Essay
There are so many things I’d do! Where do I even start? I’d spend Christmas in the snowy Montana mountains. I’d go Christmas tree shopping with all my friends, and we’d pick the cutest synthetic tree to be environmentally friendly. I’d decorate it with shiny glass and diamond ornaments. I would spend New Year’s Eve in New York City at the top of Rockefeller Center in a grandiose party surrounded by strangers and friends.
When the new year arrives, I’d volunteer my time rescuing and training abused and neglected horses. That would be my primary focus. Equestrian is my favorite sport, and nothing would make the community happier than seeing underdog horses getting a second chance at life. Many people don’t know this, but hundreds of horses are given to kill pens every year because their owners cannot afford to keep them. I feel like it is my duty to rescue as many as I can. It is exhausting work, but there is absolutely nothing more fulfilling than seeing a skinny, scared horse transform into a healthy, confident athlete. It warms my heart to see the progress. The last thing I’d do before my gap year ended would be a seven day vacation in Barbados, so I could swim and tan to my heart’s content. Then I’d be ready for the fast-paced action of the school year!
