English it is! by Monica - August 2016 Scholarship Essay
Going to school for twelve years now has granted me the opportunity of experiencing all sorts of classes and teachers. Since grade school I was encouraged to and rewarded for doing good in school. Whether it was passing an exam or getting a good grade on an assignment. It was not until the 3rd grade when end of course exams were given that I realized english was something that I truly liked.
Having the best teachers was not always the case. However, somehow my english teachers seemed to and seem to be the only subject I get lucky in. These teachers taught me how to expand my vision when it came to writing. Through the course of the years and the increment in knowledge of the work has given me the opportunity to better my writing; as well as find a more intimate connection with the subject. Through the various forms of teaching this subject has allowed me to be able to express myself. No longer am I so concerned or even afraid to allow others to learn more about me through my writing.
Why english you might ask? Numbers and I are not the best of friends and science well science encompasses so much that I would not know where to begin. English has simply been a subject that comes easy to me. Essays, understanding the true message in a Hemingway poem, or breaking down all the parts of a short story are not easy but they do not scare me either. Not so long ago I was faced with the challenge of doing a 20 page research paper. The first thought that popped into mind “was no way, how in the world would I do this”? However, I knew that the preparation that I had from all these years was more than enough to help me achieve this difficult yet not impossible task. When the paper was done, sealed, and delivered I could not help but feel proud of what I had just completed.
Will I ever be prepared for what school has in store for me, no, but one thing is certain that grade school, middle school, and high school have given me the perfect amount of readiness to face any obstacles that lie ahead.
