Distraction-Free 2016 by McKenna - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
For the year of 2016, I made some of the most cliche New Year’s resolutions ever. Lose weight, be more positive, get organized, and basically just be a better version of myself. A new year means a new start in many aspects of life...including school. My New Year’s resolution for school this year is to eliminate all distractions. I am one who tends to get distracted easily. If I get rid of all my distractions, my life would be so much easier and homework wouldn’t take me hours.
School work can take a long time if I have my phone sitting next to me. I get one notification and I’ll start scrolling on social media for hours. If I stop worrying about what I’m missing I might get some work done. It helps immensely that One Direction is on a hiatus for a year. Maybe that will eliminate my hours and hours of reblogging various photosets of Harry Styles on Tumblr. I’m need to be more concerned about myself instead of what’s happening on the internet.
I would get a lot more done faster if I found a quiet place. I have a noisy family whom I enjoy being around… most of the time. Then the TV gets added in, the dog starts barking, and the cats start walking on my paper. It is complete havec. I honestly don’t know how I got anything done ever. It can be hard to completely remove myself from the chaos and focus on my work.
I am really seeking out to achieve this New Year’s resolution for my own good. I know if I just sit down and do all of my work at once, I could have so much time to do what I want without the haunting stress in the back of my mind telling me I have work to get done. I would maybe even start getting to bed a decent time. I need to separate myself from everything and everyone to get my stuff done before I start reblogging photosets of Harry Styles and interacting with my chaotic household.
