The Future: What's Ahead? by Matthew - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

The future isn’t too far away. Considering I’ll be twenty seven in only ten years, I can already imagine where I want to be come along 2026. My goals and aspirations will be high, but I plan on having a successful future.
Firstly, I plan on attending St. Mary’s University so that I can enter a field in accounting. I love working with numbers and would like to deal with financial records to make sure they are accurate. I started in Pre-AP math in the sixth grade and have continued to do well ever since I started that course. I have taken many math courses during the course of my life. Such courses include: Algebra I Pre- AP, Geometry Pre- AP, Algebra II, Pre Calculus, and Calculus AB-AP. In college, I plan to take more involved courses such as Statistics, and Business Calculus so I can make sure my mathematic reasoning skills stay sharp.
By going into a course that involves so much work, I plan to take as much out of the career as I possibly can. I want to support my family for all the support they have given me during these last eighteen years. I especially want to support my mom because she basically took on the role of a single parent. She worked relentlessly to make sure that I could make it this far. I want to support her financially and make sure she can live comfortably and not have to worry about teaching.
With that being said, I also plan on minoring in psychology. Hopefully, during some point in my life, I can work with others who have problems and are struggling. I want to be there for them because I want them to feel that they have someone they can rely on and trust. Although at times in my life, I didn’t have any fatherly figure that I could talk to, or a friend who understood me, I want to help those who feel that they have no one to talk to.
In addition to my hopes of majoring in accounting and minoring in psychology, I see myself getting married and supporting a family. I want to be able to share my life with a significant other. I want to get married to a wife who is just as serious as I am about life. Hopefully, we can raise a family together. I want to be able to raise children of my own and give them a better childhood than I had. I want to ensure that their futures are kind to them. I want to see their smiles, knowing that I did something right.
However, although this future is ideal for a number of people, it isn’t achieved by many. With the courses I’ve already taken, and plan to take in the near future, there is no reason why this dream isn’t achievable. Supporting my parents, and hopefully, children will all become a reality, only if I can continue to strive for my dreams. It all begins with a single step.
