College: The Gateway to Opportunity by Mary - January 2018 Scholarship Essay
Opportunity - in my vocabulary - is the opening for possibility, and taking opportunities is imperative to success in every situation. College, subsequently, is one of the greatest suppliers of opportunities: both in actual circumstance and in teaching adolescents the importance and logistics of taking opportunities. I, as an ambitious young person, am always looking for new and great opportunities, and am looking forward to taking advantage of as many as possible when I attend college.
The modern college environment provides students with a vast arrangement of opportunity. I personally enjoy the academic aspects: where colleges deliver endless courses, majors, and study opportunities. Overall, American colleges and universities provide more than 1,500 majors to the public, some schools offering over a hundred just within their campus (The New York Times). Granting students with so many classes to choose from proves the boundless opportunities of college in itself. I can go to college and become anything I want: artist, doctor, lawyer, teacher - the opportunities are limitless. This limitlessn ess allows students greater opportunity in the future; academic skills earned in college can open doors in entrepreneurship, new technologies, and myriads of creative endeavors, all of which will offer future generations increased opportunity.
Additionally, college allows students to learn how to recognize and take opportunities by furnishing students with the ability to branch out into the workforce. It is practically a requirement in today’s world to intern during schooling; not only does it assist in paying for college, but internships and co-oping present students with necessary experience in their choice field of study. This accessible freeway to the workforce is a strong personal draw towards college. If I can take an opportunity that allows me to secure a solid job in the real world, I will. There is a vast amount of competition both in college and the workforce; possessing an extra advantage would be highly beneficial.
The word opportunity best defines my reason behind attending college, and at the root of that is my love of learning. I have always held a hunger for knowledge and am constantly searching for new opportunities and seeking out valuable experiences in order to satisfy this. Availability and the challenge of opportunity is the driving force that allows me to gain knowledge and the hope for wisdom that accompanies it. Because I hope for success, the opportunities of college education are the reasons I look forward to attending.
