The tale of the girl who procrastinates. by Maria - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

"Did you finish the assignment Maria? You know it is due tomorrow?"
I look at my friend and just try to remember what she was referring to. I could not remember what assignment or even what class I had this mysterious assignment for.
"The questions that Mr. Tucker assigned us last week?" she asked again only with more concern on her face.
"I started on them that night." I replied, then looking away.
"Did you finish them?" I turned my head in denial. I shrugged my shoulders and assured her that I would have them done by tomorrow morning. When I arrived home later that evening from school I sat on the couch and watched the television for another hour or so. When I looked at the clock I realized how late it was.
"It is already nine o' clock!" I shout and jump up from the couch. I grab my Calculus notebook from my book bag and stare at the problems. Mr. Tucker had given us fifty problems that take about twenty minutes each to finish, so I begin to panic. I turn the page and see that I have already completed ten of them and I begin to panic some more. I started working on them and by the time I get to the fortieth problem, the time is almost two o' clock. I give up and go to bed.
This has happened to me numerous times over my four years of high school and it is tragic. I am not able to give my best effort on the assignments that I am assigned so the task is not at the best quality they could be or even completed when i turn it in. This has effected my grades slightly as to where I am not able to receive that A that I strive for, ultimately damaging my GPA. However, now that I am going to college I will fix this procrastination problem that I have. This can not happen when I begin my college courses, so I will work on time management and distributing my work load evenly so that I am not doing forty problems in one night.
