A Resolution Towards the Future by Maggie - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

After New Years, many people develop ideas and resolutions to change their future. A new year is starting and they want it to be better than the last. As a seventeen year old senior about to graduate, I'm looking to finish the year out well. My resolution to go with my original thoughts on an answer instead of second guessing will give me the confidence leading into college.
Often times, I struggle with looking at a question for too long. I think I know the answer, but I begin to doubt if I'm really answering it correctly. I then proceed to go through all my options, laying out all the information I know or think I know. I quickly cross out answers that are obviously wrong. Then I'm left with two to decipher between. I end up choosing one, but after a little thought, I change my answer.
When I get the test back the next day, I see in fact, I did change the correct answer to the wrong answer. I shouldn't have that doubt in my head and go with my original thoughts. More often than not, my first gut feeling was correct.
My New Year's resolution is needed as a finish out my senior year of high school. I'll need it to succeed on tests and homework. But more importantly, I need to change my ways to ensure my title as valedictorian. I have always been the top in my class and my goal to give a speech on graduation night.
I hope to work at this resolution and see it in college. 2016 should be a good year if I stick to my original knowledge. I strive to build up my confidence and change my ways for my future in college.
