My Path to Radiologic Technology by Madison - February 2024 Scholarship Essay
Having undergone numerous MRI and X-ray scans throughout my life, I developed an interest in the mechanics, technology, and the human side of medical imaging. Being exposed to the radiology department and being able to interact with the radiologist technician during my visits has been a good experience.
One experience I had was when the tech was putting in the IV they popped my blood vessel. Ever since then, I have always been nervous about getting the IV needed for the MRI. I know that when I become a tech I am going to practice a lot putting in an IV so another person or kid does not have to go through what I did. All my other experiences have been good. The techs have been great and would answer any question I have.
I have always desired to help others and make them feel safe. This has made an impact on my decision to become a radiologist technician. By becoming a radiologic tech, I aim to contribute to the healthcare industry and play a role in positively impacting patients' lives. My encounters as a patient have given me insights into the technical aspects of medical imaging and witnessed firsthand the impact that compassionate and empathetic care can have on an individual undergoing such procedures.
I'm driven to improve the overall patient experience. Drawing from my encounters, I am keenly aware of the potential anxieties and uncertainties that individuals may face during diagnostic imaging. By incorporating my understanding of the technical aspects of imaging and coupling it with a compassionate approach, I aspire to create a more comfortable and reassuring environment for patients.
My journey from being a patient who has undergone countless MRI and X-ray scans to aspiring to become a radiologic technologist is driven by a passion for both the technical aspects of medical imaging and the human connection within healthcare. I am eager to leverage my personal experiences to make a meaningful contribution to the field of radiology, ensuring that patients receive experience care that is compassionate and empathetic. I want to make an impact on someone's life and learn all the amazing ways we use technology to help people live their best lives.
